IERS Conventions Center

The Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM) and the US Naval Observatory (USNO) have provided the Conventions Center of the International Earth Rotation and Reference Frames Service (IERS) since 1 January 2001.

The principal scientists are Gérard Petit (BIPM) and Brian Luzum (USNO).

The main product of the Center is the IERS Conventions, which describes reference systems realized by the IERS and the models and procedures used for this purpose. The Conventions are in the form of a book published at intervals of a few years, the latest of which is the IERS Conventions (2010) that has been published as Technical Note 36. The technical content of the chapters and the associated material is available here.

NEW July 2011: The process for updating the Conventions (2010) is starting, see here.
